Colonel Donald Ballard joins The GenZ Show to discuss his choices that led to the events resulting in his being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Colonel Ballard stresses that life is all about the choices you make and the relationships you form.
In Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam, on May 16, 1968, Navy corpsman Donald Ballard threw himself on a grenade to save wounded soldiers. Thankfully, the grenade had a defective fuse and only exploded when he threw it into the air. The Medal of Honor was awarded to Ballard by President Nixon on May 14, 1970. He embodied the finest traditions of the US Naval Service through his courage, bravery, and unwavering devotion to duty in the face of great danger.
Colonel Ballard also highlights the importance of character education for children and youth today. Medal of Honor Character Development Program is a free resource that teaches students about courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism through educationally grounded lessons developed by teachers for teachers.
